General

All our newer programs require the Microsoft .NET Framework. You probably already have it installed, but if not, the Framework can be freely downloaded from the Microsoft website. The programs require Microsoft Framework 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5 or higher. (Informatik xPrint requires version 3.5.) In most cases, our software installation will detect that you do not have the Framework installed. You will then be presented with a link to download and install it. If you don't get this link, it is easy to install manually. To do so, go to the Microsoft site and follow the link to Download and Trials -> Download Center, then, if you cannot see it listed go to 'More Downloads...'. Alternatively, you can search their site for 'download .NET Framework'.

If you incur an error message when entering the license unlock codes on Vista systems, disable the User Account Control (UAC) while you enter the license unlock code. After unlocking, you can re-enable the UAC.

What's the difference between many of your graphics programs?

We have a large selection of programs where some functionality overlaps. It can be confusing to know which program that you need. To help sort things out, we have a comparison table to illustrate the differences.

TiffDLL90, Tiffmaker90, OCR DLL

If your project is running in VS2010 using Microsoft Framework 4.0 (or later) you must set the CPU Target to x86. The CPU Target can be specified in Project -> Properties -> Compile -> [Advanced Compile Options button]

If the conversion does not create an output file and you don't get an error message, then, most likely the system cannot find the Tifftek32.dll file. Please read the Distribution section of the User Guide.

OCR DLL

There is no way currently to compile a true 'NET 4.0' project with the OCR DLL. However you can use OCR DLL in a NET 4.0 project with the following procedure:

To run the DLL on Framework 4.0 you must create an Application Configuration:

Go to Project
Select ‘Add New Item’
Installed Templates -> Common Items -> General -> Application Configuration File

The app.config file will open.

Add the following text just below the

Save the changes.

The text MUST be the 'app.config' file; it will not work if it is in the app1.config file.

Informatik Scan 12

If the Scan program has been running well for some time and suddenly no longer works, do the following:

  • Turn off the scanner device and turn on again.
  • Check and see if some of the scanner settings have changed, and reset. The scanner settings can be accessed via the scanner's own dialog.
  • If running over a network, ask the network administrator if some settings have changed.
  • Check the cable connections and wiring. Check for electric interference.

Other problems:

  • For Scan 12 you need the Microsoft Framework 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5. Framework 4.0 is not compatible with Scan 12.
  • Check and make sure that you have the latest TWAIN driver. Twain drivers are available from the scanner manufacturer's website.
  • If some pages are not saved or you get 'index' errors your scanner may be running in 'Scan Ahead' mode (sometimes called 'Fast Scan'). Informatik Scan does not support 'Scan Ahead' (this feature may be named differently by some scanner products). You need to disable the Scan Ahead feature. Contact the scanner manufacturer if you cannot find the switch for that feature.
  • If the scanner does not work in Duplex mode, it may be that the Duplex needs to be set in the scanner's own dialog. This is necessary with some scanner models.
  • When all fails, download and re-install the Scan 12 software.

Informatik xPrint

Make sure that you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (or later) installed. The Framework file can be freely downloaded from the Microsoft web site (Download Center).

Go to the Help ->About menu of xPrint and check the version number. The version must be 2.60 or later.

If the program does not respond do the following: 1. Look for the xPrint icon in the task bar (bottom-right corner of the screen). Double-click on the icon and disable it. 2. Click on the Informatik xPrint icon on the desktop (i.e. launch Informatik xPrint). This will reset the necessary internal links. 3. Exit the Informatik xPrint that you just launched. If Informatik xPrint still does not respond, open the Setup window of xPrint and review the settings. If you make a change to the Setup, repeat the above 3 steps.

Before you install an upgraded version of xPrint, follow the following three steps: 1. Look for the xPrint icon in the task bar (bottom-right corner of the screen). Double-click on the icon and disable it; 2. Via the Windows Control Panel, un-install the old xPrint; 3. Install the new version of xPrint.

Imagistik Image Viewer

If the program does not open:

  • check and make sure that you have the Adobe Reader (free version) installed on the PC.
  • In the Adobe Reader, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Internet and make sure that the 'Display PDF Browser' is checked.

Informatik Archiver

If the program does not open:

  • check and make sure that you have the Adobe Reader (free version) installed on the PC.
  • In the Adobe Reader, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Internet and make sure that the 'Display PDF Browser' is checked.

Doc2Tiff

  • Check and make sure that your system has the Microsoft Office Add-in 'Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS'. That add-in is required. It is very rare that the add-in is missing. Please Google 'Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS' for a link to more information and download.
  • The Microsoft Office or Microsoft Word may create zero-size temporary files. For high volume processing the temporary folder may overflow and cause the Doc2Tiff to fail. Please check the Temp folder and clear it.
If you upgrade from an earlier version you must un-install the old version before you install the new version.

AsciiConvert

The standard version of AsciiConvert supports up to 250 columns. If you need support for more columns, please contact for pre-compiled versions supporting 500, 1000 or 2000 columns.
